- It’s December, and we’re running half-naked on the grass, portraying the vision of the merger between MeMyself and I and football, as apparently the even these two concepts may be combined – that was Magdalena “Magia” Pasierska’s live comment. That’s what MMI’s photo session in the youth sports center Agrykola in Warsaw looked like, crowning the beginnings of their cooperation with Roma Gąsiorowska. The stylization had been prepared especially for MMI’s concert organized on the occasion of the EURO 2012 group draw.
During the breaks between particular shots, the musicians sought refuge at the nearby restaurant to have a sip of hot tea. After all, everything went according to the plan. Nobody has caught a cold. Everybody enjoys good health. Furthermore, the concert given before the EURO 2012 group draw was so successful that the Polish team drew probably the easiest possible set of opponents in the history of football. Roma Gąsiorowska’s first steps together with MMI are but a beginning of a long-term cooperation. – First and foremost, it’s been a great honour for me. I had been waiting for this moment for a very long time. I dreamed about it, because I’m their great fan. That’s why I’m so glad I could contribute to the concert. I designed their looks by myself, I wanted them to appear smart, but at the same time – abstract. For me, the most crucial thing was to achieve the contrasts in colours and styles.
Henceforth, Magda’s silk evening dress in a canary-yellow colour and her pink hair against the green grass, or Michał’s blue shoes, imitating snakeskin, his afro wig and his general green-and-yellow appearance. They were very brave, defending the concept against the low temperatures. During the concert, they were joined by Karol, dressed in a kimono and linen trousers from the “7 grzechów” (7 sins) collection – says Roma.
Will there be anything more? We shall see. I’m very curious. They’re very nice and brave. If we continue to cooperate we may create many much more interesting compositions – declared Roma.
During MMI’s session, various projects from Roma’s collection “stara bardzo” (‘very old’) were used. This is the way Roma speaks of her own collection: “‘stara bardzo’ is a fashion brand, which focuses on pursuing the artistic forms in fashion, and transforms the role of fashion by entering the world of art. The collections are but an excuse for performances, combining the new media, experimental video-clip, theatre.
Apart from that, they touch upon certain topics which are present, but somehow left unsaid in the whole world of business. They provoke self-reflection. Additionally, they are an inventive way of employing the potential of certain talented people, as they, by joining the projects, working with body, picture and relations with others, become a part of the creation process. “stara bardzo” is an open question: who are the present-day artists and what’s their position, what’s their influence on the reality via the mass media, and the image do the media create. What do people accept and what do they want to follow, what do they want to be like???
Where is the place of fashion, art in this world of creation? What are we compelled by? “stara bardzo” is not only about fashion. It’s a manifestation, a world view and a style of living. Fashion, creation, style – these are the ways in which you express yourself, your distinctiveness, it’s a courage or the lack of it, it’s a sense of taste. Each and every one of us has their own vision of aesthetics, but we are all bound by the governing rules of style and beauty. “stara bardzo” enters into a dialogue with them, asks questions and seeks for answers.”
